Tales and Trails

I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with my curator friend and colleague, Jack Smurthwaite, and writing a family trail to guide visitors deep into Kew’s natural area this winter.

We installed ‘talk tubes’ throughout the conservation area, encouraging visitors to split into teams of two and read ecosystem secrets to each other.

The talk tubes were attached to the trunks of Kew’s towering trees and connected by small pipes running underground, not dissimilar from the underground networks of fungi that exchange nutrients with the trees and help our woodlands to thrive.

I loved using the opportunity to include this quote from Badger in Kenneth Graham’s the Wind in the Willows at the end of our trail, installed next to a real badger set…
