Travel the World at Kew

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

I thoroughly enjoyed working on Travel the World at Kew last summer, a mid-pandemic celebration of the fact that, in spite of travel being restricted and most holidays being cancelled, you can still explore the world on an imaginative globe-trotting experience through Kew's richly diverse botanical collections.

The festival included creative writing from published authors alongside artwork by the graphic illustrator Marc Boardman, along with evocative interviews with Kew staff about the destinations each installation was designed to evoke, written by me.

I've wanted to visit the Hebridean islands for years, and in spite of all the far flung and amazing adventures that I wrote about for this project, it's Charlie Harpur's account of his amazing holiday on the Isle of Eigg that I can't shake out of my head.

I happily pictured the view in pastels below after imaginatively taking a plunge on an isolated beach, picnicking in bluebells and chatting with the jack-of-all-trade locals that Charlie described.
